Afternoon Storm Causes Power Outages, Downed Trees

PECO estimates power will be restored by early to mid-evening

A quick-moving storm barrelled through the area just before 4:00 p.m., causing several downed limbs and leaving a few areas without electricity.

Several Limerick Patch Facebook page readers said power was out in their area, and the Montgomery County Department of Public Safety dispatch page listed several road obstructions.

Reader Kelly Morrow said power is out in Parkerford and warned people to be careful at Royte 724 and Bethel Church Road because the traffic light was out.

PECO's Liz Williamson told Patch that approximately 3,000 customers in the area are without power.

"Crews have been dispatched to assess the damage," Williamson said. "We have trees down, and tree limbs on wires. There was a lot of lightning, too."

Williamson said the crews will be working to restore power by "early to mid-evening."

The storm was very intense in the airport rd. Industrial park in limerick. We had dime size hail and whatever large loose items in the yard were blown all over. I saw the top of a tree totally snapped off and disappear into the rain swept wind out over our tank trailer parking area of the lot. I honestly was thinking a tornado was going to occur right as that happened.

I thought I heard hail on my back windows, but I didn't see any when I briefly stepped out front!
