Clinton Rallies Obama Supporters in Suburbs

On the eve of the election, the President's reelection campaign deploys one of its primary weapons to a state that was regarded as 'safe' for the President six weeks ago.

Former President Bill Clinton traveled to Montgomery County on Monday afternoon, seeking to rally supporters of President Barack Obama less than 24 hours before polls open in a state that was once regarded as solidly in the President's column.

Clinton, arguably the speaking star of the Democratic National Convention last summer, was on a tour of the state that was scheduled to take him to Pittsburgh, Blue Bell, and Philadelphia the day after Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney rallied supporters in Bucks County.

An estimated 5,000 to 6,000 people, many shivering and standing close together for warmth, clustered into a grassy area outside the gymnasium of Montgomery County Community College.

"You're just standing out here in the cold. He's criss-crossed this nation," Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz said in introducing the president.

Ascending the dais to Jackie Wilson's "Higher and Higher," Clinton greeted the crowd, acknowledged local Democratic luminaries in attendance, and launched into his characteristically folksy oratory. He spoke for about 20 minutes.

"There are going to be a lot of important decisions in the next four years," Clinton said. "I want Barack Obama to be the 'Decider in Chief,'" invoking a description of the Presidency coined by Obama's predecessor, George W. Bush.

He credited Obama with "saving the U.S. auto industry" and said Romney had mischaracterized the auto bailout as an effort to export American jobs overseas.

"Who wants a president who will knowingly and repeatedly tell you something you know is not true?" Clinton asked, his voice occasionally becoming hoarse in the cold.

"When Governor Romney gets his hand caught in the cookie jar, he just digs down for more cookies," Clinton said.

Clinton was preceded at the rostrum by Schwartz, 6th District Congressional candidate Manan Trivedi, 8th District Congressional Candidate Kathy Boockvar, and Montgomery County Commissioner Josh Shapiro.

You see, it's easy to run on a slogan, like Obama did in 2008... Hope and change, baby... It's much harder to do once you have a record that can be reviewed... He also said in 2008 that if he didn't get the job done in four years, that it would be a one term deal... Well, he hasn't delivered, so time to let him keep his word... Romney/Ryan 2012

Agree that we can't trust Romney. He says he's going to get people off food stamps by creating more jobs but never goes into detail about how he's going to do that. He also wants to eliminate Planned Parenthood and would like to try and overturn Roe v. Wade (as if he could). He's a piece of work.

Can someone tell what would happen if a police officer saw a crime being committed and did nothing? Or was a fireman was told someone was going to burn a building and did nothing? Or that there would probably be people murdered if nothing was done and that president did nothing? Well, the first two would go to prison. But democrats would re-elect the third because we think he will change and we have plenty of men and women to scarifice for the Brotherhood....... Tell me this isn't true.

Romney tells 533 lies in just 30 weeks--now THAT is impressive! Your list doesn't even come anywhere close to that for Obama's entire four year term and half of those are bullspit. But, I understand, it is awesome to believe what you so desperately want to...even if that dude won't tell you any details on any of his "five point plans" or come clean on his taxes or finances.

I saw Obama yesterday claiming the new job numbers are proof that his policies are working and that we are in an economic recovery... Fact is, that is not the truth, or even close to the truth...
First, the unemployment rate ticked up to 7.9% and the year-to-date monthly average of 157,000 payroll jobs is barely enough to keep up with population growth -- much less make up for the 8 million jobs lost during the Great Recession.
Second, the so-called real unemployment rate (U6) remains elevated at 14.6%, albeit down from 14.7% the prior month. Similarly, the labor participation rate is at 63.8%, up from its multi-decade low but still incredibly weak.
Third, average hourly earnings fell a penny in October and average hours worked fell to 34.4 from 34.5 in September.
Stagnant wages means "we're not generating income," Reinhart says. "That's a problem in terms of the durability of an economic expansion, which is usually fueled by consumption. To get consumption you've got to generate income."
Also, just look at your checkbook. We are paying a lot more for everything now than we did in 2008. The price of gas has doubled. At the same time, wages have gone down, and that's if you're lucky to have a job.
In 2008, 25 banks went out of business. In 2012, 48 banks have gone out of business. Almost double the amount. Does that sound like recovery to you? Don't believe the Obama lies!!

Hmmm...wonder how we got in this mess to begin with...oh yeah. People voted for Bush...twice!!! Yep, then they have the guts to hate the change that actually creates jobs, restores the stock exchange to pre-recession numbers and kills Osama. If a Republican did that, they would be chipping his head into Mt. Rushmore. Pardon me for actually REMEMBERING what it was like in 2007, 2008 and part of 2009. We are better off! And I love the stats that talk about falling incomes! It began under Bush...How can people be so disingenuous as to believe that a hole that took almost a decade to create can be reversed in 4 years! You must be kidding me. I could spit back fact after fact and I could go right back at you with why you are misleading and wrong. But like Romney facts don't mean much to his supporters. Because this isn't an election about liking Romney, it's about hating Obama. This is about going backward...funny Romney talks about change, but all of his policy wonks and inner circle advisors are all the Bush party crowd. The good old boys, back for a second round I guess. Didn't crush us flat enough for their liking in the early 2000's, so they are back for more. Argh...I am not any angry person or rabid Democrat, but this election has really fired me up on so many levels. Mostly when I read posts like this!

Colter95,

Here's the reason that Romney will lose the 2012 presidential election. Ready, Aim, Fire....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLo0Jwj03JU

No vitriol needed to understand right from wrong.

For what it's worth, I've had business dealings with many Bain-style firms over my career. The partners, without exception, always spoke about maximizing their management fees and personal wealth as they sucked the life blood out of viable real businesses. This parasitic approach to business and profit is destroying the fiber of this country's industrial economy and the lives of the people who form its middle class.

Spewing "facts" out of context is a waste of time. I'll have to put you in 'time out' if it continues.

I don't usually give advice to Republicans ( they are usually to busy taking to hear it anyway) but let me make an exception here.
1. All this ranting about Benghazi has gotten you nowhere... and makes you sound like a talk radio zealot.
2. You are fighting a losing battle by ignoring every electoral group except White men. Demographics are already killing you and its only going to get worse so pandering to xenophobes and racists is a recipe for failure
3. Your party is going to change or die so be prepared for those changes to start right after this election loss. Smart Republicans will start that process right away since they understand this...
4. Romney is going to lose this election by enough of a margin for it to be decisive... all indications point that way. If you're reading this and still think Romney is going to win, you're wrong, you're not thinking clearly and are ignoring clear indicators... why not prepare yourself for that fact.
5. Stop talking long enough to listen... the rest of the country thinks you are a little crazy and very rude. Shut up already, you lost!
OK that's it but it would pay some people to heed this advice, the old GOP is history starting tomorrow.

How much of this objectification of Obama as some sort of "other" are people willing to tolerate? The amount of racial and religious dog whistling in messages like this is unbelievable, with the soul intention to be tapping into people's prejudices. Is this how desperate Romney/Ryan have become, to be taping into the dark side of their voter base with saying things like this?

Yup, some people would much rather elect a man who hides millions in the Caymans and Swiss bank accounts, refuses to release his full tax returns for the past ten years ( couldn't be because he took that amnesty for tax cheats in 2009, could it?) and has made his money from breaking businesses and outsourcing American jobs to third world countries. Brags about how he saved the Olympics--it only took millions of tax-payer dollars for him to do that, but please have the good taste not to mention it and right up until our recent hurricane thought it would be a great idea to privatize disaster relief. But, really, what good is a national disaster if your millionaire pals can't profit from it?

Wow--yeah, I hate to think of throwing away any money on green tech. We could have sent that to fossil fuel company subsidies that already rake in billions and don't really need it! And so puzzling that it failed--you know I think over 50% of all start ups succeed in their first year and 95% in their first five ...oh, wait a moment, I have that backwards, sorry~

Fast and Furious? I Know! Man alive, no Republican President ever has gotten us into any SNAFU like that...hell, I know Bush probably didn't invoke executive privilege near as many times as Obama. Oh, sorry again! Bush has Obama beat 25 to one,

Benghazi? Damn, you know-- after the house GOP cut funding for more security to our embassies and ambassadors I really wanted to blame them, but it wasn't until those weasel hypocrites started pouring it on thick that I started to feel compelled to point out that not only did they do that, but the help that was called for and they howled about was for Tripoli--not Benghazi.
Still, I'm glad you know just exactly what happened there, as your sources must be better than mine. I only have friends with eyes on the ground and you, well you must have fox News~

Oh, I don't want any of mine going to the military industrial complex, but guess what? Plenty does. As Oliver Wendell Holmes said--"Taxes are the price we pay for a civilized society." But do go on, I love to hear a teabilly defend a tax dodging millionaire on one hand while whining about what his taxes (that are at the lowest rate they've been in 60 years, btw) are being spent on. OMG! A poor person might get some of that and buy their kid some gum! The horror! the horror! You're a hoot.

Tell me all about your fiscal conservatives, Jack--the last republican President to balanced the budget was Ike-the top tax rate under his presidency was 90%.

Maybe if the Ayn Rand worshiping doodyheads that have more money than some small nations were actually the patriots they claimed, they'd pony up and rather than pour millions and millions into organizations that fight against raising taxes one thin dime they'd think about putting that money back into their country in the form of taxes, job creation or programs that benefit society as a whole.

But you go on and worry about whatever Rush, Sean or the right wing tool of your choice tells you to worry about. after all, they have no REA$ON to mislead you at all, do they?

Let's see, we are deciding between:

Option A: JD/MBA from harvard, gave inheritance away to charity, ran a hugely successful business, turned around Olympics after scandals, etc., and was a successful Republican governor in a liberal state.

Option B: JD from Harvard, community organizer, short term senator, 1 term President with mixed record.

Mixed Record:

(A) Why in the world did he push through Obamacare before focusing on jobs and housing? If urgent, why the 3 year delay in implementing?

(B) Why didn't Obamacare focus more on controlling costs vs insurance reforms? That is, malpractice reforms (reduce costly defensive medicine), consumer incentive for everyone, etc.

(C) Healthcare is 18% of our economy and impacts 100%. Looking back, was it handled properly or rammed through sloppily.

(D) When the BP oil leak happened, why all the delays in (a) stopping leak, (b) preventing spreading, (c) cleaning and (d) helping those effected. Boats were sitting idle waiting for permission for several days while some seemed to like watching BP squirm.

(E) Can you comment on: "Naturally, the administration would prefer that this not happen. So they’ve offered to pay the legal costs of any firm that doesn’t send out the notices."http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2012/10/04/obama-administration-pressures-contractors-not-to-warn-workers-of-impending-layoffs.html

Yes, Romney was hugely successful at breaking companies, putting Americans out of work and making a tidy profit on that for himself and his partners. He turned the Olympics around how? With millions of tax dollars. TAX DOLLARS! That should be anathema to any And he left office in MA with a 34% approval rating.

Have I mentioned that he strapped the family dog.to the roof rack in a cage for a long road trip? The poor animal was so traumatized that it's bowels let go and Romney only knew this because it began to flow down his windshield. We know this because he told us--he thought it was a funny anecdote that would humanize him. You've heard the expression it shouldn't happen to a dog? Well it did and that man thought it amusing...poor Seamus.

I'm not thrilled with our choices tomorrow, but Mitt Romney lacks empathy, I see no love of his fellow man and worse than that I see a sea of people going to the polls willing to vote for him without a clue of what he stands for, what his plans are or what his actual record is. All they know is that they HATE Obama and most of them can't even articulate why.

How long would a coach last for a philly team with a record like Obama's. Two years? Four years? Never 8 years. He would be pelleted with snow balls and BOOed off the field. Stop the party loyalty, and stop blaming others. Man up and do what is right for the countries survival.

Good Night

I hope that I am not the only one who can picture this drunk guy Bill walking down the dark hall after this post; to his bedroom, worn through PJs falling half way down his butt and pumping one fist in the air while bouncing from one wall to the next.

Pretty much personifying the conservative base.

Romney: "Jeep, now owned by the Italians, is thinking of moving all production to China"

Queue it up at 46 seconds and watch...

Jeep CEO: "Jeep production will not be moved from the United States to China"

Now if anybody tries to tell you that Romney is not lying to you to sneak his way into office, there is your proof that he is lying.

I can't break it down any more simply for people. Romney is a deceptive used car sales man. He will tell you whatever he thinks will get him what he wants. He tells the base that he is a extreme conservative and makes all the promises that the fringe extreme wants and then turns to the voters and says that he is a bi-partisan. These are not mutually inclusive positions. He is lying to somebody. Are you ready to risk if he is lying to you?

Kind of like GE didn't use our tax subsidies to buy windmill parts from China too!

I used to like Clinton until I lost my job. I did some research and found that it was because Bill Clinton signed into law the NAFTA bill and the bill which granted China Most Favored Nation Status with the World Trade Orginaztion. Those two bills are responsible for the destrution of many good jobs here in this country. They shipped these jobs to low wage country's which also allow companies to pollute. Many Dems in both houses of congress along with Republicans alos voted for these bills. Clinton could have vetoed them but did not.

Too bad that you didn't provide any links to this "research" that you supposedly did, because just reading your post on its own, it reads as an unsubstantiated conspiracy theory. And let's be honest, with your user name, I am sure that I wasn't the only person expecting you to end all of that with "and Ba Ba Booey to ya all"

Barack Obama = Popular Kid in Class who wants to "win" the Class President Election but is too lazy to do the job once elected, then blames others when things don't get done or fall apart. You cannot be lazy and disengaged and be POTUS. There is much at stake here and having Bill Clinton call Romney a liar is comical and pathetic, very un-Presidential. How about having Clinton speak to BOs successes with true economic growth and job creation across all industries, not just the auto industry. It is very easy to bankrupt a company and walk away from liabilities, then declare success and a comeback using govt funds.

Oh, like he really looked "lazy" after Sandy hit. I have a feeling that there is a certain Republican governor of New Jersey and an Independent mayor of NYC who would vehemently disagree with you.

I based my comment on 4 years worth of "effort", not a single event. One photo op does not a President make. You or I could have walked the beach, hugged the victims then flown off to Vegas. Any drinking water in Staten Island yet? You or I could have evaluated the intel then held a press conference and COMMUNICATED with the American people about what happened at the Libyan Embassy. OBL is dead but Al Qaeda is alive and well and planning their next event.

Funny how the front page of the intel was all about the Clinton visit and on page two the article was all about who is going to pay for the added security for the Romney visit...

Actually, that is pretty craftily worded and based on a real voting anomaly in some states, only they give the opposite instructions. That was probably crafted from high up, because it had to be from somebody who had knowledge of the voter anomaly in advance.
