Eastern Berks Gateway Railroad plans to run one or two weekly trips on The Colebrookdale Spur, the historic short railroad line between Boyertown and Pottstown.
According to the Reading Eagle, Berks County purchased the line in 2009 to save it from abandonment, and has contracted Eastern Berks Gateway to run the 8.2-mile line, which meanders through woods and rock formations, with lots of wildlife views. It begins near the Boyertown Museum of Historic Vehicles, and ends near Pottsgrove Manor.
"This is a line of uncommon beauty," Nathaniel C. Guest, president of the Colebrookdale Preservation Trust, told the Reading Eagle.
Guest, of Pottstown, said his organization is working with the county, consultants and municipalities along the rail line to plan passenger excursions.
