Intoxication, Comments In Italy Get Hill School Teacher Fired

The private school will not release the name of the teacher who was let go Tuesday.

According to a letter sent to the parents of students at The Hill School, a teacher has been removed from his role after his behavior on a recent trip to Italy. The school has confirmed that the teacher, whose name they will not release, was removed from duties after behavior on the trip, including being intoxicated and making "inappropriate remarks" to students.

In a letter sent home Tuesday, Zach Lehman, headmaster of The Hill School said "a faculty member conducted himself on a recent Hill overseas trip in a manner that failed to adhere to our expectations regarding proper teacher-student boundaries and general faculty behavior."

"We carefully reviewed the circumstances by talking with other faculty who were on the trip, students on the trip, and the teacher directly involved," wrote Lehman. "We determined that the teacher had been intoxicated and made inappropriate comments to some students. The teacher has acknowledged that his conduct was inappropriate."

Lehman explained that the teacher is no longer employed with The Hill School. He noted that the message was relayed to students during a special meeting in the Chapel Tuesday.

"[Students] may, of course, talk with you about these events," Lehman told parents in the letter.

He also reminded parents and students that the behavior was unacceptable.

"Our first priority is the well-being of our students, and we will always strive to act responsibly and hold our teachers and staff to the highest possible standards," wrote Lehman.

The Hill School would not release the name of the teacher at this time. A spokeswoman refused to comment any further when contacted by Pottstown Patch.
