Life is difficult for many of the 6.5 billion people on Earth, but for most of us, it's not as difficult as it used be. And that, a new study says, means that we're probably getting dumber.
The argument is that before human developed agriculture and other technologies that enabled us to practice settled lifestyles, only the brightest humans who could adapt to the daily vagaries of the hunter-gatherer lifestyle managed to survive.

One need only read the comments on these pages to realize the premise. Better yet, watch reruns of Mitt Romney's campaign. Best yet, go onto the Times Herald website and if you can get through any of the pop-ups, pop-overs, or pop-unders to say anything, then you will have the vision as to why Journal Register Co is bankrupt, financially, ethically, professionally, and journalistically.

When I was a kid adults had more common sense. Today, adults act like teenagers in old bodies. My parents generation acted & thought with adult common sense. It's all in the upbringing, & today's technology doesn't help, as it eliminates the need to think & SOLVE PROBLEMS MENTALLY. Education doesn't teack\h kids to think anymore & books are becoming obsolete. Sure, they can read novels on kindels, but how many of them will? Education is becoming tech training & memory to regurgitate test material. No learning to enhance insight & depth of thought is in the schools. Earlier generations were challanged to solve conceptual problems to build the mind's agility.
