Man Charged with Abusing Two-Year-Old

A West Pottsgrove man is facing multiple charges after he allegedly struck a two-year-old repeatedly while babysitting on New Year's Eve.
According to a report by Caroline Sweeney at the Pottstown Mercury, Justan David Heckman, 25, has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child, simple assault, and harassment, in connection with the incident that occurred in Amity on Dec. 31.

The report states that Heckman allegedly removed the victim's diaper and repeatedly struck the child on the buttocks, causing severe bruising, pain and swelling. The report adds that Heckman was interviewed by police on Jan. 4, and he confessed that he struck the child repeatedly over an eight-hour period because the child was misbehaving.
Heckman surrendered to the Berks County Detectives Office on Thursday morning, and bail was leter set at $25,000 unsecured.

Is Justan David Heckman the father? If not, where was that child's parents, who should be protecting him?

Justan David Heckman was babysitting, as the mother of the child was at work. The Mercury's article made no mention of the child's father, but did state that after the abuse was reported, the child was taken into custody of Berks County Children and Youth.
