Police Investigating Sassamansville Crime Spree
One Reading man has been charged; additional arrests are expected.
Police are investigating several thefts in the Sassamansville section of both New Hanover and Douglass Townships that occurred on Dec. 12.
According to police, several burglaries and thefts were reported out of sheds and garages. Stolen items included wire, cable, tools, and other metals.
After a report of a suspicious vehicle with two male occupants was reported later that night, police say they located a white Chevrolet Astro van with one occupant, 26-year-old Eric Edwin Kurtz, of Reading.
Kurtz was arrested and charged with loitering and prowling at night, and possessing an instrument of crime.
The second male was identified as 23-year-old Kyle Spohn, also of Reading. An arrest warrant was issued on Dec. 13, according to police.
Spohn was arrested in 2010 for possessing 11 pounds of marijuana and a handgun, according to the Reading Eagle.
Police say that search warrants have been obtained for several storage containers and vehicles that link the two suspects to the thefts. The investigation is ongoing, and additional arrests are expected
