'No Reason' For Tolls

Roads including the Route 30 Bypass, Route 202, the 309 expressway and the Blue Route have serious congestion problems, a local reader wrote.

There is no reason that PennDOT should consider putting tolls on U.S. Route 422 anymore than they should consider putting tolls on other limited access highways in the area -- Route 30 Bypass, Route 202, the 309 expressway, the Blue Route, and while we're at it Route 95. All have serious congestion problems, and that's just the way it is.

Drove from Pottstown to New Jersey every day for 11 years and managed to find ways around the congestion -- most of the time -- and since we pay one of the highest gas taxes in the country as well as (sales) tax on top of that, I think the tolls are unnecessary.

Maybe they should raise the cost of the permits for the tractor trailers hauling garbage to landfills . . . which are constant and I'm sure the 80,000-pound trucks do way more damage to the roadway than my Honda Civic.

And please stop the proposal to spend $2 billion dollars to rebuild a train line from Reading to Philadelphia. What a waste and who would use it??
