Rash of Thefts from Coventry Mall's Kohl's Department Store
Local retailer reports three thefts to North Coventry Police; called 'not unusual' by police.
According to a report on the Pottstown Mercury's website, the North Coventry Police Department responded to three different calls for reports of theft from the store during the week of Jan. 17 and 18.
All three incidents happened within the span of just two days, said the report.
"Lisa Hope Screiber, of Birdsboro, Kimberly Dawn Savant, of Pottstown, and Melvin Leroy Hopkins, also of Pottstown, were all arrested for retail theft," said the Mercury. "Screiber and Savant will face summary charges but Hopkins will face felony charges."
Police said that the thefts were all reported by Kohl's store employees. Police also told the Mercury the frequency of the crimes was not unusually high for the area.
According to CityRating.com, North Coventry's rate of theft is higher than both the state of Pennsylvania's average and the national average. The crime statistic chart above shows the 2010 rates, with Larceny and Theft ranking the township's most frequent offense.
Outside of thefts, crimes in the township have decreased over the years.
"North Coventry Township crime statistics report an overall downward trend in crime based on data from six years with violent crime decreasing and property crime decreasing," said the site.
