Terrorism, Cost, Evacuation Discussed At Nuke Hearings
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission held two public hearings on Thursday to discuss pending relicensing of Limerick Generating Station's nuclear reactors.
The hearings were held at Sunnybrook Ballroom, 50 N. Sunnybrook Road in Pottstown.

• Florida consultant calls into NRC meeting and claims safety analysis done by NRC is misleading
• Florida man continues on saying app process is a footrace between congress and NRC and that the renewal isnt based on safety considerations
• Pottstown Borough Councilman Jeff Chomnuk speaks at NRC meeting. Says after touring plant, safety is paramount
• Local resident talks about human life at NRC meeting. Says there will be no evacuating this area in threat of disasters and terrorism
• Resident goes on to say we don't need power plants and electricity we use is causing cancer
• Jeffrey Norton of PA Energy Alliance supports the renewal bc nuke energy reduces elec costs, is safe...
• Norton also says nuke energy protects environment against greenhouse gases and strengthens the economy
• Bill MaGuire reiterates what he said at earlier meeting. MaGuire is site VP at Limerick Generating Station
• Phoenixville resident asks why we need the Price Anderson Act if nuclear energy is so safe
• Dr Cuthbert of ACE elaborates on earlier comments: Limerick Gen Station must be closed. Has 14 reasons
• Three speakers so far at the NRC meeting - Dr Lewis Cuthbert, Bill MaGuire and Tom Quigley. Cuthbert strongly opposed renewal.
• Quigley and MaGuire both support the renewal
• Local resident airs concerns at NRC meeting with pollution and water
• VP of license renewal at NRC says Limerick is operated safely and will continue to. "not only safe, but clean and reliable"
• Dr Frank Winter: Some scientists have predicted nuclear energy could someday destroy mankind.
• Supervisor Neafcy thanks Exelon for being a good neighbor. Said w/o its sponsorship, economic hardship would fall on the backs of taxpayers.
• East Coventry resident says renewal doesn't make sense and that a failure due to old equipment would be hell breaking loose.
• Limerick police Chief Bill Albany supports renewal and has no worries of safety problems at LGS.
