'This Is Supposed To Be The Nice Part Of Pottstown'

Residents Saturday were concerned for the safety of their neighborhood after a shooting at Turkey Hill on N. Charlotte Street in Pottstown.

While police investigated a crime scene across the street, Ashley Dise sat on the front steps of her N. Charlotte Street home and talked to her husband Michael about crime in the area.

The Dises said they woke up early Saturday morning to the sound of gunshots in their neighborhood.

"I heard ... three or four shots," Michael Dise said and pointed to the Turkey Hill Minit Market across the street. "I think it was around (1 or 2 a.m.)"

Police arrived soon after the shots were fired, he said.

Pottstown Police officers were at the scene on N. Charlotte Street -- which was blocked off between Nightingale and Wilson streets in the borough -- throughout Saturday morning and left shortly before 11 a.m.

Around that time, Pottstown Police Capt. F. Richard Drumheller said he was not able to release details of the incident, which was still under investigation.

"There've just been robberies all over the area," said Ashley Dise. "I want to know what the police are going to do to prevent it. This is supposed to be the nice part of Pottstown ... I just want my safe neighborhood back."

Carol and Frank Summers share that desire. They live nearby and frequently shop at the local Turkey Hill. The employees at the market are friendly, the Summers said and added they hope none of the store's workers were hurt in the shooting.

"We know them all almost personally," Frank Summers said.
