Area Employers Host KenCrest Job Shadow Day

Citizens Charitable Foundation Provides Grant for KenCrest Job Shadow Program - Citizens Charitable Foundation provided a $7,500 grant for the KenCrest Job Shadow program held on April 1 and April 3, 2014. A total of thirty students from Boyertown, Pottsgrove, and Norristown High Schools worked with thirty employer mentors at Frederick Living in Frederick, Spring Valley YMCA in Limerick, and Shire Pharmaceuticals in Chesterbrook. Citizens Charitable Foundation has supported KenCrest's Job Shadow Day since 2004. The program assists high school students from special education classes to explore skills needed in the workplace.

Aligned with the Job Shadow Day nationwide initiative, KenCrest's EmployNet has organized the initiative locally for the past several years, successfully partnering with area businesses to provide students, who have disabilities, the opportunity to learn more about the world of work. The high school students shadowed their mentors in various work areas, such as information technology, telecommunications, nursing assistance, fitness assistance, dining services, maintenance, and many other job functions.

KenCrest's EmployNet serves 220 individuals with developmental disabilities from four site locations in Pottstown and Philadelphia. EmployNet's Supported Employment program, which includes Job Shadow Day, provides career planning, assessment, job development and matching, and job training services.
