MontCo to Hold Household Hazardous Waste Recycling Event on Sept. 7 in Pottstown

The county will hold a hazardous waste recycling event at Pottsgrove Senior High School in Pottstown.

Montgomery county will hold the fifth in its series of six household hazardous waste recycling events at Pottsgrove Senior High School in Pottstown on Sept. 7 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The school is located at 1345 Kauffman Road in Pottstown. The county notes that electronics will not be accepted at the event. The following items will not be accepted at the household hazardous waste collection sites:

-Latex paint: this is not hazardous and can be thrown in the trash after it dries completely

-Alkaline batteries: these are not hazardous and can be thrown in the trash if they were made after 1996.

-Large appliances and white goods: contact the township or trash or recycling hauler to schedule a pick up, or alternately call the Montgomery County Recycling Hotline at 610-2783618.

-Asbestos

-Explosives and ammunition: contact the local police department or the Montgomery County Bomb Squad at 610-278-3331.

-Infectious or medical waste

-Radioactive waste

-Asbestos

-Air conditioners, de/humidifiers, refrigerators: contact the township or trash or recycling hauler to schedule a pick up, or call 610-278-3618 for more information.

-Working refrigerators: contact PECO at 1-888-5-PECO-SAVE.

-Radioactive waste

-Smoke detectors: send them back to the manufacturer. Check the back of the item for more information or throw it in trash.
