Ocean City Mulls Boardwalk Smoking Ban
The Ocean City Council on Thursday will consider an ordinance to ban smoking on the boardwalk.
It may soon be illegal to smoke anywhere on the boardwalk in Ocean City.
The current ordinance restricts smoking to designated areas, but Ocean City Council will consider on first reading an ordinance banning smoking anywhere on the boardwalk, including the ramps and stairs leading to the boardwalk.
The proposed penalty for smoking in these areas is $100-$250 for the first offense and $500-$1,000 for any subsequent offense.
The matter will be considered when council convenes at the municipal complex at 7 p.m. Thursday night.

The area of the ordinance prohibiting smoking in parks and recreational areas would be amended to include the boardwalk, according to the agenda packet posted on the city’s website.
Smoking is already prohibited at the city’s indoor facilities, including the Ocean City Music Pier and Ocean City Sports and Civic Center.
