Pottstown Muni Airport's Community Day and Young Eagles Rally Returns Sept. 28

Pottstown Muni Airport's Community Day and Young Eagles Rally is a day to explore airplanes new and old, and—if you are between the ages of 8 and 17—take a ride in one of those exciting machines.

The Pottstown Municipal Airport's Community Day and Young Eagles Rally returns to the Pottstown Municipal Airport on Saturday, Sept. 28 with antique airplanes, modern airplanes, free rides for kids 8-17 years old, snacks, skydiving demonstrations, and, if the weather holds, a hot air balloon, according to one of the organizers.

The event, organized by the community, is a free event that will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. “For me, it’s just getting people to understand and appreciate what general aviation is all about, and to appreciate this incredible treasure of an airport that we have in Pottstown,” said the event organizer, a Pottstown resident, who is a pilot, and skydiver.

There used to be more airports in the area, but one by one by one they were turned into housing developments or sold, said the organizer.

Kids 8 through 17 years old can go on a free airplane ride (a parent or guardian’s signature is required), thanks to The Young Eagles Rally. There will be crafts and little toys for kids.

If weather permits, there will be a hot air balloon. There will be antique aircraft and newer airplanes, and a wide range of general aviation aircraft. Two of the airplanes will be available for kids to climb in and out of.  Some of the airplanes are from the 1960s and 1970s.

The Young Eagles Rally, hosted by the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chapter 1250, is a chance for young people to become interested in aviation, according to a press release from Fred Van Ryn, the rally coordinator.

“Free airplane rides are just part of Community Day, ” said Fred Van Ryn in the release. “We hope to build one-to-one relationships between pilots and young people, giving a new generation a chance to learn more about the possibilities that exist in the world of aviation.”

The Pottstown Municipal Airport is located at 1149 Glasgow Street in Pottstown. For further information about the day's events, click HERE.
