Work on Route 100 Begins Saturday

The following was provided to Patch by PennDOT:

Travel restrictions will be in place on Route 100 (Pottstown Pike) in Chester County through next week for roadwork associated with a $17.4 million project to widen and improve 2.5 miles of the highway in Uwchlan and West Whiteland townships, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said today.

PennDOT is expanding Route 100 (Pottstown Pike) from two lanes to three lanes in each direction by widening northbound Route 100 from Shoen Road to just south of Route 113 (Uwchlan Avenue) and widening southbound Route 100 (Pottstown Pike) from just south of Route 113 (Uwchlan Avenue) to Swedesford Road/Waterloo Road. 

Lane closures will be in effect on Route 100 (Pottstown Pike) as crews remove the median guiderail, install temporary concrete barriers and patch the median. The contractor’s schedule is: 

• On Saturday (June 21) from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., Route 100 (Pottstown Pike) will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Swedesford Road/Waterloo Road and Route 113 (Uwchlan Avenue);

• On Sunday through Wednesday (June 22-25) from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., Route 100 (Pottstown Pike) will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Swedesford Road/Waterloo Road and Route 113 (Uwchlan Avenue); and

• On Monday and Tuesday (June 23-24) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Route 100 (Pottstown Pike) will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Swedesford Road/Waterloo Road and Route 113 (Uwchlan Avenue).

Drivers are advised to allow additional time for travel on this section of Route 100 (Pottstown Pike) as slowdowns will occur during these operations. The contractor’s schedule is dependent on the weather. 

Allan A. Myers, LP of Worcester, Montgomery County, is the general contractor on the $17,386,617 contract, which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds. The widening project is scheduled to finish in February 2016. 

The Route 100 (Pottstown Pike) improvement project is a partnership effort between PennDOT and Uwchlan Township. PennDOT is financing and managing construction while Uwchlan Township financed and performed the preliminary engineering and final design phases of the project.
