Chestnut Knoll Walks to End Alzheimer’s, Reaches Fundraising Goal

Chestnut Knoll participated in the 2012 Walk to End Alzheimer's with 50 teammates walking this year. Together, they raised over $14,000 for this year's Walk to End Alzheimer's.

Chestnut Knoll Residential Care and Memory Care recently helped the Alzheimer’s Association one step at a time—literally. Chestnut Knoll participated in the 2012 Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Saturday, October 6, at Kutztown University, with 50 teammates walking this year. Together, they raised over $14,000 for this year’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s, and reached their long-term fundraising goal.

“Our goal this year was to break the $100,000 mark for all our fundraising efforts over the years,” said Jennelle Amole, director of the Memory Care Neighborhood at Chestnut Knoll, and team leader for the walk. “We have been working to achieve this for the past 12 years and this year we have succeed and moved past it.”

As a team, they hosted various events throughout the year to help raise money for the Alzheimer’s Association. Some events included a “Making Memories to Save Memories” Beef and Beer fundraiser in April; a BBQ chicken sale, where over 700 chickens were sold; and a hoagie sale, where 500 hoagies were sold. Although they hit their long-term goal, the fundraising does not stop here. They will continue to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Association in hopes of eliminating the disease.

“Our success is credited to a fantastic team that has strived to raise individually, and as whole, to help end Alzheimer’s,” said Amole. “We would like to thank everyone who helped at our fundraisers and donated to our team!”

“Alzheimer’s disease is a disease that robs families much too early of their loved ones – although the victim is physically present, memories are lost and often times behaviors emerge making it an especially difficult disease to deal with,” said Shawn Barndt, executive director for Chestnut Knoll. “So much of the journey of Alzheimer’s is unpredictable and uncontrollable that fighting back through fundraising efforts is a way to empower the community to make a difference! I am so very excited that Chestnut Knoll has hit this milestone of giving and so very thankful to the Greater Boyertown and Tri county area community for their support in helping us to achieve this level of donation! Raising $100,000 is a BIG achievement for the Chestnut Knoll Memory Walk Team!”
