Chestnut Knoll is spreading some holiday cheer with its residents and the Boyertown community! On December 11, Santa Claus came to town to visit all the residents at Chestnut Knoll and the children from the community, who were all thrilled to see him.
“At Chestnut Knoll, our residents are a part of our extended families, so, it is natural that we would want to celebrate the holiday traditions with them, as we do with our families at home,” said Jodie Daniels, assistant executive director. “We like to celebrate in different ways such as trimming trees, baking cookies, decorating and enjoying holiday entertainment, as well as going to events in the community and welcoming volunteers from the community to join us here.”
Santa Claus and his elf came to Chestnut Knoll Personal Care to bring joy to the residents, families, friends and children that were there to celebrate the holiday season. Children were able to visit Santa and sit on his lap to share their secret wish list.

When resident Marion Gehman sat on Santa’s lap, she shared a very different kind of secret: it was her very first time sitting on Santa’s lap! She is turning 84 years old on December 31, so after 83 years, she finally got to sit on his lap and share her secret.
“When I was younger, my family didn’t have a lot of money and with a lot of business traveling my parents did, we didn't have time to spend waiting to see Santa,” Marion said. “As I sat down, I told him, ‘I’ve never sat on Santa’s lap before, and I’m 83 years old!’ and he replied and said, ‘Well I’m one behind you, because neither have I!” recalled Marion. “We had a lot of fun. Santa was very comical,” she said.

Along with visits from Santa, Chestnut Knoll celebrated the holidays with family, friends and residents with Christmas entertainment, cookies and milk, and Christmas jingles.
Fern Freed, a resident at Chestnut Knoll, had her twin sister, Fay Kulp, visiting her for the holidays. She currently lives in California but comes to visit every Christmas for a few days. They enjoy spending time together, singing and playing duets on the piano, and decorating for the holidays.
“My sister was in the Navy and she’s been living in California for about 20 years,” said Fern. “We were very close when we were younger, and we’re still very close now at 84 years old. We talk on the phone once a week and I always enjoy when she visits. I’m so glad that Chestnut Knoll has these holiday events that Fay can enjoy with me.
