Cops: Trick-Or-Treating Is No Emergency

Area police remind residents not to tie up emergency lines.

You’d think it would go without saying, but some Pennsylvania municipalities have found they need to issue a reminder: 

Please don’t call 911 to ask what time your area trick-or-treats.

"People don't know where else to call, so they call 911 instead of their municipalities, like they should," Patty Mains, public information officer at the Chester County Department of Emergency Services, told The Philadelphia Inquirer.

After fielding a handful of inquiries on the matter, West Vincent Township in Chester County found itself posting a reminder online to urge residents not to tie up emergency lines with questions about trick-or-treating.

In Pennsylvania, most towns do not have a set time for trick-or-treating. To find out if yours does, call your local municipality — on a non-emergency number.
