POTTSTOWN HIGH SCHOOL MARKETING CLUB INDUCTS NEW MEMBERS

POTTSTOWN SCHOOL DISTRICT

Recently, the Pottstown High School DECA club, an association of marketing students, elected a new slate of officers and inducted new members at a dinner ceremony held at Pottstown High School cafeteria.  The dinner was prepared and served by Pottstown High School Culinary Arts students under the direction of Chef Mary Jo Kuhwald. 

Lindsey Havyer was elected President, along with Vice President Emily Griffin, and Public Relations Officer Sierra Lee.

            The evening's ceremonies were conducted by DECA Advisor Mr. Kevin Pascal.  Mrs. Judyth Zahora, School Board President, recognized the outstanding efforts of the DECA organization and noted, "Students who participate in DECA learn specific career technical skills, communication skills, human relations, and employability skills."  Director of Career & Technical Education Mrs. Danielle McCoy congratulated the organization for being one of the most energetic and active groups in the high school.  She noted many projects that the DECA organization has initiated included the student store and community service fund raising projects.

            High school business teacher and former PHS student Mr. Dennis Arms congratulated the students on entry into “an outstanding organization that will provide you with the experiences to help you become successful in the business world.” 

Emily Griffin presented a PowerPoint presentation highlighting the many activities of the previous year’s DECA students.

Alumni speakers on hand included Charlsie Lee, Hope McMahon, and Danielle Remigio-Jackson.

            Sponsor Mr. Pascal expressed his pride and appreciation for the students who organized the event, “Induction is one of those events during the DECA year that is stressful but also rewarding.”  He also encouraged students to begin their preparations for this year’s district competition held in January and expressed his confidence that they would qualify for the state competitions held in February.

 DECA is an international association of high school and college students.  The organization’s goals are to improve education and provide opportunities for students interested in careers in marketing, management, and entrepreneurship in business, finance, hospitality, and marketing sales.  DECA helps students to develop skills for successful business careers providing opportunities for students to build self-esteem, experience, leadership, and practice community service.
