Boyertown Junior High West's Musical Broadway Revue Showcases Cultural Diversity

Boyertown's Junior High West vocal music students celebrate cultural diversity with a Broadway Revue.

Escape the winter chill and join Boyertown Junior High West as it celebrates Broadway in an energetic and entertaining musical revue that showcases the theme of cultural diversity.

Presented by the West Show Choir and Seventh Grade Ensemble to recognize the 10-year anniversary of Boyertown’s participation in the "No Place for Hate" program, the show is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 28, 7:00 PM in the Donald J. Kuszyk Auditorium, located at the school. Songs featured in the evening’s performances come from seven Broadway musicals that focus on the multi-cultural differences that make our nation's communities so rich.

The Boyertown Area School District took the initiative to become a "No Place for Hate" district 10 years ago in the belief that understanding and tolerance of differences are essential aspects of the education of children in order to fulfill the district's mission: "to enable all students to succeed in a changing world." Created by the Anti-Defamation League, the "No Place for Hate" program helps schools "challenge anti-Semitism, racism and bigotry ... by providing an innovative and powerful model for creating more inclusive environments."

“Magic to Do,” the stunning opening number from Pippin kicks off the show, with
students performing a variety of tricks and stunts that the audience is sure to
enjoy. Soloists include Mary Fetterman, Andrew Bennett, Kelly Werkheiser,
Caroline Lewis, Grace Evan, Zack Benning, and Julian Stetka.

Included in the group numbers is “Don’t Nobody Bring Me No Bad News” from The Wiz, with Makya Davis as the featured soloist. Lauren Bergen presents a solo from the same musical with “Home.”

The Show Choir men take the stage with “Muddy Water” from Big River, the musical adaptation of Mark Twain’s trail-blazing novel about racism, Huckleberry Finn. Jayden Todd and David Helmer will follow the men’s performance with “River in the Rain,” a duet from the same show.

The ladies of the Show Choir will perform the charming “Wonderful Guy” from the Rogers and Hammerstein musical South Pacific, with Rachel Moyer as a soloist. Oren Fanok and Robert Markofski present a duet, “You’ve Got to be Carefully Taught/This Was Nearly Mine,” also from South Pacific.

The Seventh Grade Ensemble adds to the show with “We Dance” from Once on This Island. Presenting solos are Taylor Kuszyk, Eliza Giannetti, and Madison Kershner.

Both choirs will assemble together for “Somewhere” from Rogers and Hammerstein’s groundbreaking West Side Story, and again for the finale with a high-energy number from the musical Memphis. “Steal Your Rock and Roll” features soloists Zack Weisel, Daniel Trout, Elyse Rothenberger, Jennifer Moyer, Seth Dawicki, Rachel Hulswit, Helena Berner, Tim Barone, Megan Droege, Cecilia Howald, and Madelyn Hair.
