Cruise Night Roars Into Boyertown

Cruise Night 2013 roars into Boyertown Saturday night, July 20, bringing great cars, entertainment, music, and food.

Whether you want to show off your wheels or enjoy seeing others, hit the road and steer on over to Cruise Night in Boyertown this Saturday, July 20, from 4– 9:00 PM.

Sponsored by Building A Better Boyertown (BBB) for the sixth straight year, this year’s Cruise Night promises a good time for all, including approximately 200 cars, great food, entertainment by a Doo-wop group, a DJ, and extended hours at the Boyertown Museum of Historic Vehicles. Last year’s event drew over 300 spectators and this year’s Cruise Night will be bigger and better, according to Adrianne Blank, BBB Main Street Manager, who is in charge of planning the evening.

Held at Boyertown’s main intersection of Routes 562 and 73, Philadelphia and Reading Avenues, Cruise Night 2013 is open to cars of all makes, models, and years, “foreign and domestic, classic or exotic, mild to wild, race cars and motorcycles too,” says Blank. Trucks are also welcome. In addition to this intersection, participating vehicles will be parked at the National Penn Bank and the Museum’s parking lots.

Doo- Wop Group Headlines Entertainment

“The Tributes,” a Doo-Wop group with members from Pottstown and Philadelphia, will headline the evening’s entertainment when they perform under the marquee at the State Theatre 6- 7:00 PM. The group includes “front man” Dr “C” Chub Whitacre, who originated the group in 2009 and sings bass, lead, and background vocals.

Born and raised in Pottstown and a graduate of Pottstown High School, Dr C says he “has been singing and playing music since his childhood.”  In addition to singing with “The Tributes,” he hosts an audio and video live streaming show for “Studio 28,” a division of local PCTV. The group performs songs everyone knows and loves, like “At the Hop,” and “Rock’n Roll is Here To Stay.”

Other members of “The Tributes” include Joe Mehl, who recorded two songs entitled “Lisa” (1959) and “Miracles” (1961) with a group called “The Four Graduates,” Danny Impriano, whose hit records include “Hay Girl,” “There Goes the Boy,” “Crimson Tide,” and “My Baby,” Frank Lewis, and David Moore.

Wicked Effects Car Club, Historic Vehicles Museum, Food Vendors Contribute To Event

Wicked Effects, a Boyertown based car club, has been meeting with Blank since January to provide their expertise in helping to plan this event. Car club members are also volunteering their services at Cruise Night and a member of the group will be the DJ, spinning tunes from 4- 6:00 and 7- 9:00 PM at the main intersection, where trophies will also be awarded. Wicked Effects is also a sponsor of this year’s Cruise Night.

Food vendors will include Boyertown’s own Carmelo’s Pizza and Rita’s frozen treats, which is also an event sponsor. Hot dogs and ice cream specials will be sold by the Salvation Army and the Kiwanis Club. In addition, several trailers will sell burgers, fries, funnel cake, and similar items brought in by Fetter Concessions.

Open all day, Boyertown’s Museum of Historic Vehicles, located at 85 S. Walnut St., will feature extended hours that night for those attending the show who would like a “brake” from the heat. The Museum is one of the major sponsors of Cruise Night.

Many downtown businesses will also be open and offering special items and prices.

Thanks to increased sponsorship, more trophies will be awarded this year ever before. Winners will be named in nine different classes of vehicles, and all entrants will compete for three Winner’s Cups to be awarded for Best of Show, BBB Choice, and Mayor’s Favorite.

Explaining her enthusiasm for Boyertown’s Cruise Night 2013, Blank states, “I love doing it because Boyertown loves its cars. Not only is it fascinating to see all of these amazingly well cared-for cars in their immaculate condition, but also they look so beautiful and fitting, parked in the town’s historic district, surrounded by the buildings.”  All proceeds from the event benefit BBB’s revitalization efforts.

There is still time to register in advance, (See websites at the end of this article.), but participants are also welcome to register the day of the event, beginning at 3:00 PM in the parking lot of Good Shepherd Church and the parking lot behind St. John’s Lutheran Church, off Walnut Street. The first 100 participants to actually arrive with their vehicles will receive a grab bag containing discount coupons from local businesses.

If a weather delay is necessary, the event will be moved to July 27; notice will be posted at the website below.

In addition to Wicked Effects, the Boyertown Museum of Historic Vehicles, Rita’s, and BBB, Cruise Night 2013 is sponsored by Passmore Service Center, Hodge Podge Thrift and Gift Boutique, Graber Letterin’ Sign Co., Patsy’s Potpourri of Gifts, Trans Logistics Inc., Drug Plastics, Bursich, The Pennsylvania Auto Tag Place, and Tina Jamison, Independent Distributor of the “Body Applicator.”
