Don't sleep and drive. A driver in New Hanover Township found this out the hard way on Sunday morning.
According to a report in the Pottstown Mercury, Scott Bender of Perkiomenville, was driving his 2008 Nissan Altima along New Hanover Square Road around 9:15 a.m. on Sunday morning when he fell asleep at the wheel. Bender was coming off of working a 12-hour shift.
The Mercury report states "[Bender's] vehicle drifted into the southbound lane and into the path of a 2001 Mazda MPV driven by Kevin Wible of East Greenville."
Wible moved his vehicle to the right to attempt to miss the oncoming Altima, but was still hit by Bender's car. Wible then rushed to the aid of Bender, whose car was heading toward Minister Creek, according to reports.
Luckily, there were no reported injuries. A tow truck was called to retrieve the Altima from the creek.
A report released by the Centers for Disease Control earlier this month stated that one in 24 U.S. drivers admitted to having fallen asleep at the wheel at least once in the previous month.
