Collegeville Boy Killed Near Perkiomen Creek

5-year-old struck by tree while walking with his mother and brother

 

A five-year-old Collegeville boy was killed Thursday evening by a falling tree while walking in a wooded area near his home with his mother and older brother, Upper Providence Township police said.

The child's mother told authorities that she was walking with her boys on a trail along the Perkiomen Creek, near Larchwood Court on the property of the Perkiomen Woods development, when the tree fell and struck the younger boy.

Emergency responders reportedly administered CPR at the scene before taking the child via ambulance to Phoenixville Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police designated the death accidental in a statement that was released to the media by Upper Providence Detective Raymond Bechtel, who investigated the incident.

Early reports indicate an Upper Providence boy, 5, suffered serious injuries when a tree fell on him around 5 p.m., March 8.

The incident occurred in a wooded area near the 100 block of Larchwood Court.

The boy was reportedly given CPR at scene.
