Former Pottstown Man Sentenced to 20-40 Years in MontCo Court For Sexually-Assaulting Children

A former Pottstown man was sentenced to 20 to 40 years in state prison Friday in the Montgomery county court of common pleas, following his conviction for sexually assaulting two children in Pottstown in 2011, according to The Mercury.

The Hon. Gary S. Silow, the judge of 20-year-old Jeremy Abel, who is now an Easton resident, said that Abel was “poisoned” with pedophilia.

“There is a tremendous undue risk he will commit another crime such as this,” said Silow. “I must protect society from Mr. Abel and I think he understands that. Is that clear, sir?”

Able answered affirmatively, and was then handcuffed for his journey to prison.

Some months back this year Abel was convicted of rape of a child and involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child in regard to circumstances involving a boy under five years old and a girl under 10 years old that are said to have occurred in 2011 in Pottstown in a home on Manatawny Street.

Silow pointed out that Abel had been sexually abused as a child and himself became a sexual offender, saying that it was an unfortunate cycle.

“I know what I did was not right. I want to stop doing it,” Abel told the judge before he was sentenced.

Silow agreed on Friday with a Pennsylvania Sexual Offender Assessment Board determination that Abel should be classified as a sexually violent predator under Pennsylvania’s Megan’s Law. Following this, Abel must provide his address to state police for the rest of his life after his parole, and the community where he lives will be informed of his residential arrangements.
