Mom Sentenced in Child Welfare Incidents
Was found lying incoherently on the ground in March while her young child wandered on the street nearby
A Pottstown woman who allegedly drove a minivan containing her children while under the influence of marijuana and was later found incapacitated on a borough street while her unsupervised toddler wandered nearby has been sentenced to up to 23 months in jail, probation and community service.
The Mercury reports that Keilana Scurry, 36, pleaded guilty to charges of endangering the welfare of children, driving under the influence of a controlled substance, and possession of marijuana stemming from the separate incidents last winter. In February, police reportedly found one of Scurry's elder children yelling at her from outside her minivan to stop driving before she got into another accident. A blood test allegedly found traces of marijuana in her system. A few weeks later, police reportedly found Scurry's 1½-year-old child wandering on N. Evans Street as she lay incoherently on the ground nearby.
County child welfare officials will reportedly be performing additional assessments of Scurry and her children. She has already served three weeks in the Montgomery County Correctional Facility in connection with the charges.
