A Philadelphia man has been arrested in connection with Monday's reported carjacking at the Upland Square Shopping Center in West Pottsgrove.
According to a report by Frank Otto at the Pottstown Mercury, 26-year-old Omar Miller, of Philadelphia, was taken into custody by the Pottstown Police after he was observed driving the reportedly carjacked vehicle on East King Street.
The report states that Miller allegedly assaulted his present – or possibly former – girlfriend at the Sleepy's store in Upland Square, prior to driving off in her vehicle and leaving her behind. The severity of the victim's injuries is unknown, but she was reportedly alert at the scene and able to move of her own accord.
West Pottsgrove Police Chief Earl Swavely stated that they plan on charging Miller for assaulting the victim, but carjacking charges are pending further investigation.
"Right now, it looks like we're going to be charging [Miller] with assaulting [the victim]," said Swavely, in the Mercury's report. "We're going to see if it's actually [the victim's] car, then possibly add on carjacking."
