A Pottstown-area man was drunk and without a driver’s license when he flipped his car on Route 29 earlier this month, state police said.
Luis Anthony Maldonado, Jr. was charged with two counts of DUI, driving without a license, careless driving, and related charges after the November 1 accident.
According to court documents, state police were dispatched to Route 29 north of Dickson Drive in Malvern on November 1 at 2:48 a.m. for a report of a crash. When they arrived at the scene, they saw a black Nissan Sentra overturned and lying on its driver side doors.
When police interviewed the driver, Maldonado, they noted he smelled like alcohol and had bloodshot, glassy eyes. He added that he did not have a driver’s license.
When asked to explain the accident, Maldonado told police that he had three beers and two shots at PJ Ryan's and lost control of his vehicle on the way home, swerving onto an embankment and flipping over.
Maldonado then consented to and failed three field sobriety tests and a breathalyzer test. He was placed under arrest and taken to Chester County Hospital to have blood drawn for testing.
Maldonado faces a preliminary hearing on December 13.
