Pottstown Brothers Arrested After One Accused of Stealing MontCo Sheriff’s Dept. Gun

Bevon Hartman allegedly confessed crimes to police after they interviewed him in relation to an accusation that his brother Nicholas Soulsby had a Sheriff's Department gun in his possession.

After being questioned by police in relation to an accusation alleging that his younger brother stole a Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department handgun, a Pottstown man held in the Montgomery County Correctional Facility after being accused on a crime spree spanning five counties has now been charged with various crimes in Upper Pottsgrove, according to The Mercury.

Bevon Hartman, 21, of Pottstown, was charged with reckless driving, failure to stop at a red signal, and fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, per court documents.

According to Pottstown Police, Hartman allegedly admitted to taking credit cards, money and sometimes weapons, as well as breaking into cars in Montgomery, Chester, Bucks, and Berks counties over 10 times. It is alleged that Hartman also admitted to threatening to kill a man who was repossessing his girlfriend’s car in Chester county, and invading a home in Lancaster county, police say.

Police were interviewing Hartman because a concerned citizen came forward and said Hartman’s younger brother, 18-year-old Nicholas Soulsby of Pottstown, was in possession of a stolen Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department handgun, police said.

Police said Hartman was being investigated after a concerned citizen accused him of stockpiling weapons and, according to police, they identified him as having used stolen credit cards at Wawa stores.

When Hartman saw police, he allegedly drove away at a speed of close to 100 miles per hour.

Hartman is scheduled to be in the courtroom of District Judge Tony S. Russell in Lancaster County on Aug. 30 and in District Judge Albert J. Augustine’s court in Montgomery County at date that will be determined.

Police charged Soulsby with a felony count of receiving stolen property and a felony count of unlawful taking, per court documents.

District Judge Scott T. Palladino set Soulsby’s bail at $100,000. He is being held at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility. Soulsby is set to appear in the same courtroom on Sept. 12 at 2:30 p.m.
