Pottstown Firefighter Fell Down Elevator Shaft

A Phillies Fire Company fireman fell down the elevator shaft of a building on East High Street while on duty and was trapped for an hour.

A firefighter from the Phillies Fire Company in Pottstown fell down the shaft of an elevator of a Pottstown building located on the 300 block of East High Street yesterday afternoon, according to The Pottstown Post.

The firefighter is said to have been trapped there for an hour.  The Spring City Liberty Fire Company noted in a post on their Facebook page that Pottstown fire companies were sent to the commercial building after word of smoke being there.

Pottstown Fire Chief Richard told The Mercury that an overheated motor caused the smoke.

The firefighter, whose name had not been released as of late Saturday, supposedly fell while tending to the motor.  His injuries were unknown as of Saturday night, as well. 

Other fire companies expressed their wishes for his speedy recuperation on Facebook.
