[UPDATED] Pottsgrove Middle School Evacuated After Possible Carbon Monoxide Leak

Reports indicate that as many as 23 students were taken to area hospitals for evaluation.

Update 12:48 p.m.: The Pottstown Mercury is reporting that the middle school has been cleared and will reopen tomorrow. The Mercury's report states that at least 23 students were taken to area hospitals for evaluation, and those students who were unaffected were given lunch at Pottsgrove High School before being sent home for the day.

There is still no official statement regarding the cause of today's incident.

Update 12:27 p.m.: NBC10 is reporting that the incident is not related to a carbon monoxide leak. Citing police sources, NBC10 reports that students were rehearsing for a holiday pageant, when the lights became too hot, causing the students to become ill.

Update 12:10 p.m.: 6ABC is reporting that the total amount of students receiving medical treatment has reached 10. Their report adds that the school superintendent will provide a statement at a later time.

There is still no information regarding what caused the leak.

A hazmat situation has forced the evacuation of Pottsgrove Middle School, after nine students "passed out" due to what is being reported as a potential carbon monoxide leak.

According to MontcoAlerts' Twitter feed, emergency medical personnel are currently evaluating the ill students while local fire companies are checking the school. Montco Firetalk has also reported that five of the ill students have already been transported from the scene.

How do lights become "to hot" and cause children to pass out and over 20 to be taken to the hospital? My child was one that was taken to hospital and we still do not have any answers. We were told that if our child stayed home tomorrow that it would be an excused absence. For lights getting to hot? Where are the answers?
