Special Olympian Repeatedly Raped by Former Driver, Police Say

Joseph T. Lombardo, 59, of Reading, is accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting a 48-year-old mentally disabled woman over a period of two years.

A Reading man is in custody after police say he repeatedly raped a 48-year-old mentally disabled woman over the course of two years.

According to the Pottstown Mercury, Joseph T. Lombardo, 59, is charged with rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, indecent assault and indecent exposure, in connection with the alleged repeated abuse of a Sinking Spring woman beginning in 2009 and ending in 2011.

Lombardo, who owns a transporation company for the mentally disabled called Life Coach Companion, initially came into contact with the victim when he was hired to transport the woman to the Special Olympics in 2009. A report by NBC10 states that over the course of the following two years, he allegedly sexually assaulted the woman numerous times, both in his home and in his vehicle.

Police were alerted in September 2012, when the victim came forward to file a complaint. After speaking to a forensic interviewer, it was deemed that the woman was incapable of providing informed consent to the alleged sexual activity, states a report in the Reading Eagle.

Lombardo is currently being held in custody at Berks County Prison, after failing to post $100,000 bail.
