Spring City Man Charged With Firing Gun into Home

A disturbance call resulted in felony charges.

Spring City police arrested a 49-year-old North Penn Street resident on Monday, Dec. 10 following reports of a gun being fired into a home next door. 

William Chomiak, of 448 North Penn Street, was arrested and charged with felony counts of discharging a firearm into a residence and aggravated assault, along with misdemeanor counts of making terroristic threats and disorderly conduct. Chomiak allegedly fired twelve shots at his neighbor's home. 

According to a press release from Spring City police chief Anthony Kuklinski, police responded to 450 North Penn Street after the resident called 911 and reported that shots had been fired through the wall of the home. The resident found some projectiles on the floor of their home. 

After securing the property and assisting the victim and a witness to leave the home, police went next door to 448 North Penn Street to try to contact Chomiak. 

Chomiak reportedly came to the front of the house and then retreated back into the home when he saw police. Police report that he told them he was "not coming out unless police had a warrant."

Chomiak allegedly remained behind a storm door, and according to police was agitated. 

Police reported that Chomiak had an unidentified item in his hands that he refused to drop, and he allegedly refused the commands of the officers repeatedly to surrender.

The subject was Tasered after refusing to surrender and was physically apprehended by officers without any injuries. 

Police secured several weapons and ammunition from inside the residence. The motive for the alleged shooting is unknown.   

After being arrested and charged, Chomiak was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge James V. DeAngelo. Bail was set at $250,000, 10 percent ($25,000) and Chomiak was remanded to Chester County Prison pending a Dec. 20 hearing.
