Cops: Woman Stabbed by Son on Third Street

This was not the first time the man had stabbed someone with a butcher knife.

A Pottstown woman was stabbed by her 23-year-old son on the 100 block of Third Street Wednesday night, police said.

Jason James Payne, 23, waived his right to counsel following his arrest Wednesday and admitted to stabbing his mother, Pamela Hadrick, The Pottstown Mercury reported.

Hadrick was stabbed with a butcher knife, police said. She was airlifted to Lehigh Valley Hospital where she underwent surgery; her condition was not made available.

Payne was charged Thursday with attempted first degree murder, felony aggravated assault, and multiple misdemeanors including endangering the welfare of children, simple assault, reckless endangerment and possessing an instrument of crime, The Mercury said. Bail was set at $500,000.

This was not the first time Payne had stabbed someone with a butcher knife. The Mercury said that Payne was arrested in September 2010 and charged with stabbing his stepfather with a butcher knife, which he admitted to police. Those charges were dismissed in 2012 with no explanation.
