Pottstown Borough to Discuss Raising Police Fees and Fines

In thinking about raising its fees and fines, the Pottstown Police Department looked at the fines in surrounding municipalities.

Pottstown borough may be looking at an increase of police department fees and fines, which was discussed at the Borough Council’s Council Committee Of The Whole meeting Wednesday night.

According to Pottstown Police Chief F. Richard Drumheller, while there is a plan to look at raising all of the Pottstown police fees and fines, the fee and fine amounts that would be charged are still lower than those in many surrounding municipalities.  “We just looked at what other municipalities were charging and compared our fees to cities like Norristown,” he said.

There is a new proposed fee for doing work on one’s car in the street, and a possibility to discuss towing fees, which, according to Chief Drumheller, “haven’t been changed since the beginning of time.”

According to Borough Solicitor Charles Garner, Esq., from here the Borough Council will discuss the matter on Monday, Aug. 12, and vote on whether they will authorize proposing to change the fees.

Some of the proposed police fees and fines may affect the borough’s traffic ordinance, which Garner said would take more time to amend than the police fees.

But Pottstown residents should not expect a quick change.  “This is a pretty significant list of fees at this point and may take a little time,” said Garner.
