MCCC Pottstown and Phoenixville Area High School Launch Health Science Credit Program

Montgomery County Community College in Pottstown and Phoenixville Area High School in Phoenixville are partnering to allow the high school students to earn health science college credits.

Montgomery County Community College (MCCC) in Pottstown and Phoenixville Area High School (PAHS) in Phoenixville are launching their College Pathway Academy Program that will allow the high school students to earn college credit in the health science fields, according to a MCCC release.

This early college initiative will allow the high school’s juniors and seniors who are interested in health careers like radiology and pharmacy to earn up to 24 college credits, at the same time giving them the opportunity to explore the working environment at Phoenixville Hospital in Phoenixville, and participate in community service.

As part of the kick-off, about 20 PAHS students will visit the MCCC west campus in Pottstown and participate in a ‘Health Careers Boot Camp,’ participating in activities in the school’s Health Careers Suite and having lunch.

Some of the Academy’s courses include Medical Terminology, Medical Law & Ethics for Health Professionals, and Intro to Psychology.

Since 2007, PAHS and MCCC have employed a dual-credit partnership that allows high school students to earn transferrable college credits.
