Fourth of July Fireworks at Memorial Park Cancelled Due to Lack of Funds

Citing a lack of financial support, Fourth of July Committee co-chairwoman Marcia Levengood announced the cancellation of this year's fireworks display, as well as most of the Independence Day activities in Memorial Park.

This year's Independence Day celebration at Memorial Park will be more quiet than usual, as a lack of financial support has forced the Fouth of July Committee to cancel the fireworks display.

Committee co-chairwoman Marcia Levengood stated in a report by the Pottstown Mercury that fundraising has lagged over recent years, and the organization has to deal with the misconception that the funding for the celebration comes from Pottstown taxpayers. The report additionally states that many in the borough believe that members of neighboring townships should shoulder a portion of the financial burden.

Regarding the other portion of the borough's Independence Day celebration, the committe is still planning the Fourth of July parade, but they'll need to raise an additional $20,000 for that to occur, according to a report in the Sanatoga Post.
