Pottstown Police are seeking help in identifying the driver involved in a hit-and-run on Hale Street Thursday morning.
Police are still searching for the driver of a vehicle who struck a 10-year-old girl was was riding her bike on Hale Street Thursday morning. According to a report in the Pottstown Mercury, witnesses described the driver as a bald, Asian man who fled the scene in a red car or SUV with a light missing. The report states that police do not believe the missing light is related to the accident. The hit-and-run occurred while the girl was riding her bike shortly before 9 a.m. on Thursday. The vehicle struck the bike, causing the girl to fall. She was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries, and released a short time later, reports say. A 10-year-old girl fell victim to a reported hit-and-run earlier this morning in Pottstown, according to reports. Though little information is currently available, a report by the Pottstown Mercury states that the girl was struck by the vehicle at 8:52 a.m. The report states that the driver fled the scene of the accident, and the current condition of the girl is unknown. Man Charged with DUI After Allegedly Passing Out at McDonald's Drive-Thru: According to a report in the Limerick Patch, a 27-year-old man has been charged with four counts of DUI after he allegedly passed out in his vehicle while at the McDonald's drive-thru. Court documents state that upon arrival by police, the driver smelled like alcohol, had glassy eyes and seemed lethargic. He was later taken to a local hospital to have blood drawn for testing. King Street shut down between Penn and North Charlotte Streets due to downed traffic light.
Officials are investigating a Tuesday morning traffic incident in Pottstown, where truck knocked over a traffic light and then fled the scene. According to the Pottstown Mercury, the incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. at the intersection of North Charlotte Street and King Street in Pottstown. The report states that King Street was closed between Penn Street and North Charlotte Street as crews worked to remove the downed traffic light. The drivers of two cars confronted each other early Sunday morning in Royersford.
The driver of a vehicle was struck by another car early Sunday morning near 1st Avenue in Royersford, following an apparent road rage incident. Royersford media relations officer Thomas Godin Sr. told Patch that officers were called to the scene of an accident at 1:24am Sunday. Godin said that the responding offciers determined that the incident was a road rage incident where one car had been tailgating another car. The driver of the car being tailgated stopped to confront the driver of the other car. Two individuals reportedly exited the tailgating car and threatened the first driver with a knife. A Gilberstville woman was sentenced to seven years of court supervision for the 2011 hit-and-run death of Kristy Bender.
Patricia Maurer, 75, who was found guilty of the 2011 hit-and-run death of 26-year-old Kristy Bender in June, was sentenced to seven years of court supervision, according to the Philadephia Inquirer. Judge Joseph A. Smyth sentenced Maurer to one year of house arrest, one of parole, and five years of non-reporting probation. She is also required to pay the cost of her four-day jury trial this past spring. The Bender family requested that Maurer, of New Hanover Square Road, not get jail time. Smyth said that he thought not allowing her to drive a car was a "good, practical approach." "We are satisfied," Bender's mother, Kathy, told The Inquirer.
