A Pottstown man faces up to 61 years in prison after pleading guilty on Thursday to the murder of his girlfriend following an argument in the victim's apartment on Feb. 2, 2012. Edwin Carrero II, 33, pleaded guilty to charges of third-degree murder, theft by unlawful taking and access device fraud in connection with the strangulation death of 31-year-old Alicia Schmidt, according to a report by the Pottstown Mercury. Monica Shay died Thursday. She and her husband, Paul Shay, owned the house in Gilbertsville, Douglass Township where they and three others were shot on Saturday.
A third victim in Saturday's shooting is dead. Monica Shay, 58, died Thursday, said Paul Hoffman, Deputy Coroner for Lehigh Valley County. The exact cause of her death is undetermined, he said. An autopsy will be conducted at 8 a.m. on Friday. Shay was shot in the head at a Renninger Road, Gilbertsville, Douglass Township house she owned with her husband Paul Shay, 64. On Sunday, Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman and Douglass Township Police Chief Barry L. A massive manhunt for a killer is over. Mark Richard Geisenheyner, a suspect in the shootings of five people that left a child and man dead in Montgomery County, is dead after a six-hour standoff with police in Trainer, Delaware County. A short time ago, Montgomery County First Assistant District Attorney Kevin Steele confirmed that the Delaware County medical examiner declared Geisenheyner dead today. Heavily armed and armored members of the Ches-Mont Emergency Response Team are scouring an area of Douglass Township this morning after a Saturday night shooting that authorities say left two dead and three others wounded.
Update 6:50 a.m.: Montgomery County Assistant District Attorney Kevin Steele said this morning that there were two dead as a result of last night's shooting, including one child and "an adult white male." Three others were injured, Steele said. ABC is reporting that Joseph Shay, 43, and Gregory Erdmann, 2, were identified as the two people killed. "Both suffered gunshot wounds to the head," the report states. The three injured people are in critical condition, the ABC report continues, identifying them as Kathryn Erdmann, 37, Paul Shay, 64, and Monica Shay, 58.
