Bark for Life of Pottstown will be hosting a Canines as Caregivers celebration on Saturday, April 13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Memorial Park. The event will feature food, games and prizes, a one-mile dog walk, non-profit rescues and a much more, with proceeds benefitting the American Cancer Society. Pottsgrove High School will play host to Pottstown Relay for Life's "Got Talent" show on Saturday, April 20, at 6 p.m., with all proceeds benefitting the American Cancer Society. The show will feature 12 singing and dancing contestants competing for over $1,000 in Coventry Mall gift cards, with $600 going to the winner, $300 going to second place and $100 awarded to the winner of the popular vote. Contestants were chosen from a previous competition at the Coventry Mall on Feb. 23. Relay for Life teams will be in the lobby manning various raffles and selling food, desserts, and more. The 7-year old aspiring singer rocks the stage—and even has a hype girl!
The video posted above is of 7-year-old Nya-Jolie, who auditioned for the "Pottstown's Got Talent" competition at the Coventry Mall on Feb. 23. Nya-Jolie even had her own "hype girl", named Kaiya Quintero. According to Nya-Jolie's mother, the duo grabbed the attention of both the judges and the customers throughout the mall. The contest seeks to raise funds for the ACS Relay for Life of Pottstown, and those chosen from the auditions will formally compete a finale show on April 20. Chestnut Knoll employees raised $1,800 for the Relay for Life Cancer Walk.
Penn Liberty Bank was the location of a successful charity dog wash on Saturday morning.
Pottstown Bark for Life volunteers spent the morning bathing, brushing and toweling their way through 55 dogs to raise money for the American Cancer Society. The Bark for Life Dog Wash was hosted by Penn Liberty Bank assistant vice president Tom Thunstrom and his branch on Lewis Road. Dogs of all sizes came out to get cleaned up. Russ Sarault of Old English Grooming was on hand to take care of the brushing, nail trimming and ear cleaning, and a team of volunteers handled all the bathing. This event is Bark for Life's last event for the year. Their fundraising year starts again in September, and their marquee event is the Bark for Life dog walk in the spring. With a near cloudless sky above and a fiery sun beating down on Hatters Stadium Friday afternoon, a glimmer of a rainbow peeked out during the 13th annual Relay for Life of Eastern Montgomery County. "Ray's Rainbows," a nine-member team comprised of the Browning and Jacobi families of Willow Grove and Horsham, sought shelter under a tent, but their vivid memories shown just as bright as the rainbows on their matching T-shirts. "I'm sure he's here," Ray Browning's daughter, Chris Jacobi, said of her dad, who lost his battle with cancer two years ago. "He knew we were walking two years ago and he held on until we came back."
