Firefighter Receives Probation for Phony 911 Call

Tyree Thomas Jr., 24, of Pottstown, sentenced to three years' probation following guilty plea on misdemeanor charges of false alarm to agency of public safety.

A former Pottstown volunteer firefighter has been sentenced to three years of probation, after admitting to reporting a phony fire to 911 dispatchers during an ice storm on Feb 1, 2011. According to a report by the Pottstown Mercury, Tyree Thomas, 24, received the sentence after pleading guilty to misdemeanor charges of false alarm to agency of public safety and recklessly endangering other persons. The report adds that Thomas claimed boredom as the reason for the phony call. The report states that Thomas requested to be admitted to a "special probationary program that would have allowed him to clear his record upon successful completion of probation", but to to the nature of the incident, prosecutors denied the request.
