Cop Charged with Shoplifting at Giant

An Amity Township police officer has been charged with shoplifting from Giant Food Store in West Pottsgrove.

Amity Township Cpl. Glenn J. Oesterling has been charged with shoplifting in a West Pottsgrove Giant Food Store. According to a report in the Reading Eagle, Oesterling was seen on June 12 "putting items totaling about $38 into reusable shopping bags in a shopping cart" and "left without going through a checkout line."

On June 18, Oesterling was seen at the same Giant putting "about 50 items totaling about $300 into reusable bags in his cart and left without going through a checkout line."

He is charged with retail theft and receiving stolen property and is free awaiting further court action. On July 3, Amity Supervisors supported a suspension of Oesterling as recommended by the police chief.
