N. Franklin, Juniper Street Residents Told to Boil Water

There were water main breaks earlier this week.

Pottstown officials are urging residents of North Franklin and Juniper streets to boil their water before drinking it after a series of water main breaks earlier this week.

According to notices posted on the borough's website, there was a water main break on Juniper Street on Tuesday, and one on North Franklin Street on Wednesday.

On North Franklin Street, the water main must be replaced. On Juniper Street, a water main valve must be rebuilt.

The borough said that repair work would lead to a drop in water pressure, which can allow contamination to enter the water system.

The borough offered the following instructions for residents:

Residents in the affected should NOT DRINK THE WATER WITHOUT BOILING IT FIRST. Bring all water to a boil, let it boil for one minute, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms that may be in the water.
