3 Pottstown High Students Allegedly Injure Classmates on Campus with BB Pistol

Three Pottstown Senior High School students drove onto their campus and discharged a BB pistol Thursday, where, according to an email sent to the school’s parents around noon on Friday, two students are thought to have been injured.

The three male students, all seniors and members of the football team, reportedly drove around the community, using the pistol before driving onto their campus, where they shot the gun, according to the email, which was written by Superintendent of Schools Jeffrey R. Sparagana.

One of their alleged victims was a football teammate who is said to have received a wound on his scalp from the pistol discharging as the other students drove in the car. The other alleged victim, also a football teammate, was said to have been hit in his back while in the football locker room. Neither of the students sustained a serious injury, according to the email.

The school resource officer, along with high school administrators obtained permission to search the car that the students had driven. The items found and taken away were a BB pistol, C02 cartridges, BBs, a substance that could be marijuana and other paraphernalia.

According to Pottstown police, as of Friday afternoon, there is an open investigation regarding the alleged incident. 

“The safety and well being of our students and staff is, and continues to be, our number one priority,” wrote Sparagana. “We take incidents of this nature very seriously and will follow district policy, school code and the criminal justice system in holding any and all individuals accountable for their actions when endangering the safety and well being of any member of the Pottstown School community.”

The three students were suspended for 10 days, as per the school district policy. The district will further assess the incident to decide whether the students will be subject to additional school district discipline. According to the email, the Pottstown Police Department could subject the students to possible criminal charges.
